BAY, Laguna, Hulyo 1 (PIA)- Nakatakda nang magbukas ang COVID-19 testing laboratory ng University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) sa Hulyo 6, 2020.
Pormal na inanunsyo ni Dr. Rex Demafelis, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension at Chairperson ng Task Force Laban ng Bayan Kontra COVID-19 sa UPLB, na ang UPLB COVID-19 Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory o UPLB-CMDL ay mag-uumpisa nang tumanggap ng mga sample sa nasabing petsa.
Ito ay matapos na matanggap ng pasilidad noong Lunes, Hunyo 29, ang sertipikasyon mula sa Department of Health (DOH) na maaari na silang magsagawa ng sariling pagsusuri ng COVID-19 sa pamamagitan ng Realtime Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) na hindi na kinakailangan pang dumaan sa Department of Health-Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (DOH-RITM).
Ayon sa opisyal na pahayag mula sa UPLB, nabigyan na rin ng DOH Health Facilities and Service Regulatory Bureau ang pasilidad ng "license to operate" o lisensya na nagpapahintulot rito na magsagawa na ng COVID-19 testing sa loob ng taong 2020.
Ang nabanggit na sertipikasyon at lisensya ay ipinagkaloob sa UPLB-CMDL matapos makakuha ng 100 porsiyentong marka ang anim na laboratory analyst at medical technologist sa Proficiency Test na kinabibilangan ng nucleic acid extraction, reagent preparation, at real-time RT-PCR of Multiple Targets.
Ang proficiency test ang huling stage sa proseso ng assessment na ibinibigay sa mga COVID-19 testing center na gagamit ng RT-PCR. Ang RT-PCR ay itinuturing nan a gold standard o pinakamataas napamantayan sa pagtukoy kung may presensya ng COVID-19 sa katawan ng isang tao.
Para masiguro ang maayos na pangangasiwa sa naturang testing center at ang pagtugon sa mga maaaring haraping suliranin sa pagtataguyod ng pasilidad ay nagbuo ng isang task force ang Chancellor ng UPLB na si Dr. Fernando Sanchez, Jr.
Ang UPLB-CMDL na magsisilbing subnational testing center para sa probinsya ng Laguna at mga kalapit na probinsya nito ay matatagpuan sa Agricultural and Life Sciences Complex ng unibersidad at kasalukuyang pinamumunuan ni Dr. Ma. Genaleen Q. Diaz.
Maliban pa sa UPLB-CMDL, nabigyan na rin ng lisensya upang makapag-umpisa na ang operasyon sa COVID-19 testing ang Laguna Molecular Laboratory ng San Pablo City District Hospital (SPCDH) sa parehong araw.
Sa kasalukuyan, mayroon nang dalawang COVID-19 testing facility sa lalawigan na inaasahang makatutulong upang patuloy na mapaigting ang paglaban sa nakamamatay na virus. (Joy Gabrido/UPLB)
