PHNOM PENH, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Sunday temporarily shut down a shopping mall, a hotel and a school in the capital after COVID-19-infected people had visited them, Ministry of Health spokeswoman Or Vandine said.
A Cambodian woman, 56, and her husband, 56, as well as four other family members tested positive for the virus on Saturday, she said, adding that days before their positive results, the woman did shopping at Aeon Mall 1, her husband used the Phnom Penh Hotel's gym and pool, and a family member went to study at the Chak Angre branch of American Intercontinental School.
"The government has decided to close down Aeon Mall 1 for a few days to trace people who have connections with the woman," she said, adding that the Phnom Penh Hotel will also be shut down for two days.
Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron said in a statement on Sunday that the ministry temporarily suspended the Chak Angre branch of American Intercontinental School for two weeks and called on school staff, parents and students to monitor their health and if there are any suspicious symptoms of COVID-19, they must seek medical service.
In a voicemail sent to the public late on Saturday, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that this was the first case of local community transmission of COVID-19 in the kingdom and called on people to be extra vigilant.
The Southeast Asian country has so far recorded a total of 315 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health said, adding that none have died and 301 have recovered.
