BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil's COVID-19 death toll reached 205,964 on Wednesday, after 1,274 more people died of the novel coronavirus disease in the previous 24 hours.
According to the Ministry of Health, in the same period, tests detected 60,899 new cases of infection, bringing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 8,256,536.

HAVANA -- Cuba reported 550 new infections of COVID-19 on Wednesday, setting a record for the sixth consecutive day, official data showed.
The figure brought the accumulated count to 16,044 cases, the Ministry of Public Health reported, adding that three more deaths were recorded, raising the death toll to 158.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Thursday confirmed 13 new imported COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 411 so far, said a Health Ministry statement.
The new cases were detected on eight Cambodian migrant workers.
"The results of their samples' tests indicated that the 13 persons above were positive for the COVID-19," it said.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 138 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, of whom 124 were locally transmitted and the rest arrived from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said Thursday.
Of the locally transmitted cases, 81 were reported in north China's Hebei Province and 43 in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the commission said in its daily report.

HARARE -- Zimbabwe is developing a draft COVID-19 vaccination framework for the roll out of the vaccine, Acting Information Minister Jefferson Muswere said Wednesday.
Zimbabwe has announced that it could receive its first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine next month, with the government now finalizing its national deployment plan and the training of health care workers.

LISBON -- Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa announced on Wednesday a new period of general confinement as a measure to stem the exponential growth in COVID-19 infections in recent days.
With the start of the new "state of emergency" starting on Jan. 15, the prime minister noted that "the rule is to stay in a home-based retreat," as it happened in March and April 2020 early in the pandemic.
