NAYPYITAW, Myanmar - According to court sources, a Junta court in Naypyitaw sentenced deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi to four more years in prison on Monday for possessing "illegally imported" walkie-talkies and violating Covid-19 restrictions.
Judge Maung Maung Lwin sentenced her to two years in prison under the Export-Import Law and one year under the Telecommunications Law. Both for the walkie-talkies confiscated during a pre-dawn search on her home February 1, last year, as the military coup unfolded.
The judge stated that the sentences would be served concurrently.
Suu Kyi, 76, was also sentenced to two years in prison under the Natural Disaster Management Law for allegedly breaching Covid-19 rules during her 2020 election campaign.
In early December, the deposed State Counsellor was sentenced to four years in prison for inciting and a separate breach of Covid-19 limitations during the election. Later that day, the Junta commuted her sentence by two years.
Suu Kyi is awaiting rulings on seven other cases brought by the junta administration, six for alleged corruption.
In November, the Junta declared that it would charge her and other leaders of her National League for Democracy party, which won the 2020 election by a landslide with "voter fraud."
She has been kept at an undisclosed location in Naypyitaw since early last year, serving her sentence.
