DHAKA, Bangladesh - The Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change will organize a commission to investigate the deaths of nine zebras this month in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur.
According to a ministry press release issued on Tuesday, the investigation body will determine the specific cause of these zebras' deaths.
"If somebody is discovered to be guilty of the deaths of zebras, legal action would be taken against him," Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin stated during a virtual ministry meeting.
He described the deaths of nine zebras in such a short period as "heartbreaking."
"The body parts have already been sent to various laboratories to find out the cause. Sample tests are underway at various locations. We have received some preliminary information," the minister stated.
He stated that experts are analyzing the results and that more time is needed to determine the specific cause of the deaths. "If necessary, samples may be sent abroad," he added.
