ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and Foreign Minister, said Saturday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's recent allegations against former president Asif Ali Zardari had increased threats to his father, family, and the party and "we take them seriously given our history."
In response to Imran's allegations against the PPP co-chairman, Bilawal announced in a series of tweets that he would evaluate legal options against Imran and that, after terrorist organizations directly threatened him and his party, the PTI chairman had now made false accusations against his father, Asif Zardari.
At a recent virtual press conference, the PTI chairman claimed that Asif Zardari plotted his assassination with the help of a terrorist organization.
"We are exploring legal responses to Imran's latest defamatory and dangerous accusations," Bilawal said. In the past, he threatened my father that he was 'in the crosshairs of his gun.' His [Imran's] and associates' history as terrorist sympathizers and facilitators are well documented.
"We will not tolerate being victims of terrorists and putting up with their political front men's propaganda," he said.
Bilawal claimed that while in power, Imran released terrorists and arrested democratic leaders, handed over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to terrorist organizations, and his party continued to fund terrorist organizations.
"All of these will be considered if an attack is launched against me, my father, or my party," he said.
"His [Imran's] latest accusation that my family is associated with a terrorist organization or that we would use them to cause harm defies logic and exposes all of us to an increased threat," Bilawal said.
Separately, the PPP announced in a press conference that it would issue a legal notice to Imran.
